Scorching is probably an appropriate word to describe the weather around Berkeley recently. It's been so hot that
it's practically impossible to sleep, but I suppose this weather is still better than a constant downpour of water.
I've recently sent out the latest edition of the proverb newsletter and will post it up on the website soon, but
because I'm leaving on a three day vacation, it probably won't happen until Friday. If you absolutely cannot wait
to see this issue, cajole your friends to let you take a sneak peak. The visitor counter continues to soar high
and beyond my initial expectations -- over 185,000 visits to date. I appreciate the wonderful comments I've been
receiving both regarding the website and the proverb. If you'd like to "further the cause,"
please feel free to
sign the guestbook.
I bought some batteries but they weren't included, so I had to buy them again.
I'm sure all of you have had the good fortune to purchase an electronic equipment only later to discover
that the manufacturer did not include any batteries with the product. How absurd -- you'd expect that a
product needs to come with all of its parts; yet the most essential one is outrightly missing! Surely,
the packaging team must have been sleeping.
Of course that was a joke, but quite honestly, people seem to take commercialization quite happily. If
we are told that a product comes in a certain way, we tend to accept it. I don't think anyone has ever
written to a company telling them to include batteries with their products. Perhaps if the product itself
wasn't included in the package. . .
