PIPS tracks a number of aspects of schooling as pupils move through the
primary sector. We gather data on individual pupils using assessment
materials that are quick and easy to administer. These data are
processed at Durham and the results passed back to schools. The results
allow schools to look objectively at the progress and attitudes of
individual pupils. PIPS feedback also enables teachers to judge their
schools performance within the context of the thousands of others using
the assessments at the same time, whilst protecting the confidentiality
of each school. The intention is to promote school improvement by
providing professionals with high quality information.
PIPS Assessments are curriculum based and annually reviewed for
validity and reliability. They are suitable for use in British schools
(including independent settings) and assessments are available for use
in overseas schools. Indeed, PIPS is used in 25 countries.

SAS in School works with teachers and administrators
to measure the impact of educational practices on varying student achievement
levels and determine which subpopulations are making appropriate progress.
When schools and teachers work effectively, they add value to each
student's performance. Dr. William L. Sanders, the head of Assessment Services,
has developed a reliable and innovative method for quantifying that value--his
EVAAS value-added analyses of archived test data.

School Evaluation Services (SES) is a decision-making tool for taxpayers,
educators, school boards, and state and local education policy makers and
administrators. SES analyzes academic, financial, and demographic indicators
and trends; provides valuable comparative benchmarks; and presents Standard
and Poors' findings, together with supporting data, on the performance
of school systems. SES features a synthesis of financial and academic performance
factors that promotes the sharing of best practices among school systems.
Standard and Poor's analytical conclusions measure and assess the relative
return on investment in education and, importantly, provide context for this
return.

strengthening schools; and policy.

In
their own words: "There are two sides to every U.S. education policy
debate. ...and that is the problem.
Those two sides - public education's entrenched groups allied with the
Democratic and Republican Parties - represent the interests of,
perhaps, one or two percent of U.S. citizens on education issues. Yet,
with the cooperation of most education journalists, these two sides
have become the source of virtually all the information provided the
public about education policy.
Third Education Group hopes to provide an alternative. We are allied
with neither side. We have no vested interest. Unlike the many allied
education pundits and researchers who call themselves independent, we
actually are. And, we prove it by criticizing both sides, though
probably not nearly as much as they deserve.
Third Education Group's purpose is to provide education information the
public can trust."
