History of the Acronym Tool
This acronym tool was originally developed in 1990 as a
standalone program when I was working in the Department of Computer
Science, to aid in the expansion of frequently used acronyms. With
the advent of web technologies, the program was adapted to use the
new CGI interface in about 1993 (by which time I was at the Centre
for Health Informatics). Now the database has grown to some 50,000
acronyms, and makes use of dynamic scripting for faster
lookups.
Usage
Type an acronym into the search box below. Don't include full
stops (.) between the letters, but if you are looking for a file
extension, try using a leading dot. For instance, try
".gif"
