Anadolu, en eski uygarlıkların merkezi
ve ticaret yollarının buluşma noktası olması nedeniyle, ilk yapılan haritalarda
dahi yer almaktadİr.
Batı haritacılığının "altın çağı"
olarak nitelenen 16. ve 17. yüzyıllar, Osmanlı imparatorluğu'nun en güçlü
olduğu döneme rastlamaktadır. Dönemin önde gelen haritacıları Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun
son derece dekoratif haritalarını atlaslarına dahil etmişlerdir. Bu haritaların
bir çoğunun kartuşlarında Osmanlıların komşu Avrupa devletleri ile sürdürdüğü
kültürel ve sınır çatışmaları resimlenmiştir.
Osmanlı İmparatorluğunun gerilemesine
sahne olan 18 ve 19. yüzyıl haritaları da bölgede ulusal devletlerin doğuşunu
kayda geçirmeleri bakımından ilginç haritalardır.
Türkiye haritaları koleksiyoncusu
olarak bu haritaların önemli örneklerini hep birlikte sergilenmesinin ilginç
olacağını düşündüm.
Antika haritalar konusunda bir uzman sayılamıyacağım gibi ve bu sitede verilen
bilgilerin tam doğruluğu konusunda bir iddiam yok. Bu konuda siteme ek bilgi,
görüş ve harita katkıda bulunulmasnı beklerim.

Bu sitenin amacı bu bölge ile
ilgilenen koleksiyonculara bölgenin mecut önemli tarihi haritaları hakkında
kaynak sağlamak ve dünyanın en karmaşık bölgesinde
meydana gelen sınır değişiklikleri hakkında bilgi vermektir.
