Potomac Craftsmen Fiber Gallery is a co-operative
association of approximately 70 members from the metropolitan
area. Washington’s first fiber art gallery opened in
1974 as an original occupant of the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
In 1944, the supporting fiber guild was established. Each
year eleven juried shows are installed every four to six weeks.
A variety of original art such as sculptures, wall hangings,
accessories, wearables, jewelry and many other innovative
works offer much diversity. The artists use fiber techniques
with traditional and non-traditional materials such as wire
and glass. Knitting, weaving, papermaking, quilting, basketry,
jewelry, hand-painting and dyeing are examples of the skills
the artists exhibit. A number of members are very active in
the art community. They teach, publish, exhibit in local and
national shows, and have won awards.
