New 10/09/2008:Chikio Hayashi Awards ProgramFounded in 1985, the IFCS is a federation of national, regional, andlinguistically-based classification societies. It is a non-profit,non-political scientific organization, whose aims are to furtherclassification research. Amongst other activities, the IFCS organises a biennial conference, publishes a newsletter,and supports the Journal ofClassification (JoC) and the Journal Advances in Data Analysisand Classification (ADAC).In addition to the participating Member Societies , the IFCS comprises a Group-at-Large,which serves the interests ofindividuals for whom there does not yet exist an appropriateclassification society. Hans-Hermann Bock has written a history of the IFCS, available at this link (PDF file, approx. 9 megabytes). Further information about the activities of the federation can beobtained in its governance documents, or bycontacting the IFCS Secretary.
