Senior Policy Officials Meet About Section 3 Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) Chairman John Nau hosted a meeting of Senior Policy Officials May 29, 2008 to discuss the impending progress reports under Section 3 of Executive Order 13287, "Preserve America." The meeting offered the officials a chance to engage in a discussion about individual progress reports and the development of the ACHP's own Section 3 progress report. Council Members Approve Native Hawaiian Policy Statement The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) adopted its "Policy Statement on the ACHP's Interaction with Native Hawaiian Organizations" at its business meeting May 13, 2008. Peter Jemison, Native American member, introduced the policy, and Shad Kane, Native Hawaiian representative to the ACHP's Native American Advisory Group, offered a Hawaiian chant and a statement of support for the policy. With this policy, the ACHP is acknowledging Native Hawaiian traditional cultural knowledge, beliefs and practices; committing to work with Native Hawaiian organizations to fully consider the preservation of places of importance to them; and acknowledges the important contributions of Native Hawaiian organizations to the national historic preservation program.
