CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION UPDATES:
Beginning on or about July 1, 2008, the following traffic changes will be made around Metcalf Grade School and Fairchild Hall.
University Street will remain accessible up to the east door of Rachel Cooper Hall.
Vehicle access will be maintained into the Metcalf pit and the Cook Hall parking lot.
Beginning at Dry Grove, a single driving lane on University Street will provide two-way access to the Fell Hall parking lot. The majority of this parking area will be designated for disabled parking. Public traffic will not be allowed south of Rachel Cooper.
Public access to the parking spaces on the west side of Metcalf School will be limited to the existing Main Street exit drive. This drive will be enlarged to provide vehicle entry and exit to this area.
The interior drive to the Speech and Hearing metered spaces will be altered to allow two-way traffic inside this area.
The current one-way entrance into the Speech and Hearing meters on the south end will become a one way exit only. This will provide departing vehicles the option of using the traffic signal at Main Street and Dry Grove. Guests requiring to use the meters or other designated parking in this area must use the new two-way entrance off Main Street.
Metcalf student pickup and drop off will continue the same pattern on the west side of the school for the summer.
It is anticipated that University Street and Dry Grove will reopen to limited traffic in August of 2008. At that time it may be necessary to alter traffic directions.
Construction planned on central and south campus will result in a temporary loss of approximately 100 parking spaces. Parking and Transportation appreciates the patience of its users and offers the following considerations :
Accessibility for students with disabilities is one of the primary concerns during this extended period of construction. The Fell Hall parking area will be primarily designated for Disabled parking; to serve the academic buildings still in operation along the Quad.
The loss of over 50 spaces due to the construction of the new South University St. Chiller building will significantly reduce the number of faculty/staff spaces available in parking lot F-24. Therefore, some spaces will be designated for faculty/staff in ISU parking lot G-14, which is located in the block South of Osage Street.
Metered parking lost to the planned construction will not be replaced at this time. Every effort will be made to keep access into and out of the South University St. Garage open, with traffic flowing freely.
Current plans do not require the garage to be shut down for any construction conflicts.
At some point during the garage construction time-line, temporary entrance / exit lanes may have to be utilized. These changes will be communicated to the garage permit holders and public users via multiple means. The most current information will be available on the Parking and Transportation web page at www.parking.ilstu.edu and the Campus Construction Update web page at www.facilitiesplanning.ilstu.edu/update/#iGuide.
As always, for any additional questions or concerns, please contact the Office of Parking and Transportation at (309)438-8391, and request to speak with a customer service representative.
Illinois State University assumes no responsibility or liability for loss or damage to any vehicle, nor does it assume any personal liability in connection with it's parking program.
