Our mission is to provide high quality, practical, research based resources to teachers, parents, librarians, schools, public libraries, and state educational agencies. Each member of our team is a certified reading specialist, and contributes a wide variety of expertise in instruction, assessment, curriculum, materials, and professional development. With the advent of No Child Left Behind legislation, the federal government has made a commitment to ensuring that all of Americas children receive a quality education. No Child Left Behind stresses the importance of teachers using instructional methods and materials that have a proven track record. As reported by the National Reading Panel, 2000, scientifically based reading research has found five areas to be crucial to reading development: Phonemic awareness: the ability to hear and identify sounds in spoken words.
